This version of the free dosha quiz starts with sleep as your concern. It estimates your dosha — the balance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha you were born with — then asks about how you are sleeping now. Ayurveda traditionally links different sleep patterns to different doshas. About three minutes, no email, not a diagnosis.
Why sleep and your dosha belong together
Ayurveda gives sleep a lot of weight. The Charaka Samhita names it, alongside food and brahmacharya, as one of the three supports of life. So when sleep goes wrong, Ayurveda does not see it as a stand-alone problem. It asks what kind of person is sleeping badly, and what has shifted in them.
That is what this version of the quiz is built around. You have arrived with sleep as your concern, so the quiz skips the first "what brought you here?" step and goes straight to the questions about you.
Three sleep patterns in Ayurvedic thinking
Classical texts tie different kinds of sleep trouble to different doshas running high:
- Vata: too little sleep. Loss of sleep is attributed to raised Vata. People often describe it as a busy mind at bedtime, light sleep and waking in the small hours. The classical texts also list a Vata-led constitution among the causes of sleeplessness.
- Pitta: sleep cut short. Shorter sleep is attributed to raised Pitta. People describe it as dropping off well enough, then waking hot, alert or with the next day already running through their head.
- Kapha: too much sleep. Longer sleep is attributed to raised Kapha. People describe it as sleeping long and deeply yet waking heavy and slow to start.
These are traditional frameworks, not medical categories. They are useful because they point Ayurvedic suggestions in different directions: what may help a restless Vata night is not what may help a heavy Kapha morning.
How the quiz reads your sleep
The quiz does two separate jobs, and both matter for sleep.
First, your inborn balance. Thirteen questions ask how you have been for most of your life — your build, skin, appetite, digestion, energy, pace and how you handle pressure, along with sleep. Answer these for your whole life, including the years when you slept well. They estimate your prakriti, the constitution you were born with.
Then, how you are sleeping now. One or two questions ask about the present, and because you started on this page, they are the sleep set. If your answers point to one dosha running high at the moment, your result names it separately from your inborn balance.
Keeping those apart is what makes the result useful for sleep. Someone born with a steady, Kapha-led balance can still go through months of light, broken sleep. Mixing the two would blur both. Kept apart, the result can say something like: your nature leans one way, and right now another dosha looks raised.
The whole quiz is about 17 questions, plus a short safety check, and takes about three minutes. You see your result without giving an email.
What to read after your result
Your result shows Vata, Pitta and Kapha as percentages, plus anything flagged as running high now. From there:
- Racing mind, light sleep, early waking? Read about Vata insomnia and the racing mind.
- Waking hot at night? See Pitta night sweats and 3am wake-ups.
- Long sleep, groggy mornings? Read why Kaphas wake up tired.
- The bigger picture. Ayurveda for better sleep covers evening routine and timing, and Ayurveda for sleep shows how InnerVeda approaches each pattern.
For your dosha overall, start with the page for your leading dosha: Vata, Pitta or Kapha.
A word of care. Ayurvedic routines may help you wind down and sleep more regularly, but they are not a treatment for sleep disorders. If poor sleep has lasted for weeks, if you snore loudly or stop breathing in your sleep, or if you are exhausted however long you sleep, please see a doctor.

Questions people ask
It is the same quiz with the same scoring. The only difference is that sleep is already chosen as your concern, so the short set of questions about how you are right now is the sleep set.
Classical Ayurvedic texts attribute loss of sleep to raised Vata, shorter sleep to raised Pitta, and too much sleep to raised Kapha. Your result shows both your inborn balance and, where your answers point to one, which dosha looks raised now.
No. It is a wellness reading, not a diagnosis. It can suggest which Ayurvedic pattern your sleep resembles. Ongoing insomnia, loud snoring, or feeling exhausted despite a full night are worth raising with a doctor.
Yes. It is free, about three minutes, and shows your full result without an email.
