A prakriti test estimates your prakriti, the balance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha you were born with. An Ayurvedic physician assesses it in person by observing, examining and questioning you. This free online prakriti analysis uses a fixed set of questions instead, takes about three minutes, needs no email, and is not a diagnosis.
What prakriti analysis means in Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, prakriti is your inborn constitution: the particular balance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha you were born with. Classical texts describe it as set at conception and constant for life. Most of what Ayurveda goes on to suggest — food, daily routine, how to respond when something feels off — starts from it.
That is why prakriti is one of the things an Ayurvedic physician examines. The classical texts also describe seven forms it can take: three where one dosha leads, three where two lead together, and one where all three are in balance.
How an Ayurvedic physician assesses prakriti
When vaidyas carry out a prakriti pariksha in person, they use three classical methods of examination: looking (darshan), touching (sparshan) and questioning (prashna). They observe your build, skin, hair and the way you move and speak. They ask about your appetite, digestion, sleep, temperament and how you respond to heat and cold. And they bring their own judgement to how those signs fit together.
Over the past few decades, researchers and institutions have also turned this assessment into structured tools. Examples include the CCRAS prakriti assessment scale and software-based tools such as AyuSoft. A 2025 review counted 64 published prakriti assessment tools, of which only 20 had been through any form of validation. Two, the CCRAS-PAS software and the ACPI scale, met seven of the nine criteria the reviewers used.
What an online prakriti test can and cannot do
This test is a questionnaire. That gives it some real strengths and some real limits, and it is better to know both.
What it can do. It asks every person the same questions and scores them the same way every time, so the same answers always produce the same result. A 2013 study, in which 15 Ayurvedic doctors examined the same 20 healthy people, found that the doctors agreed only fairly on prakriti, and the authors suggested that questionnaires and software make prakriti assessment more reliable. Consistency is something a fixed questionnaire does well.
What it cannot do. It cannot see you, feel your pulse or ask a follow-up question when an answer seems off. It relies on how well you know yourself and how honestly you answer. And it has not been through the kind of formal validation the 2025 review looked for. It is a wellness reading, not a clinical prakriti pariksha and not a diagnosis.
If you want a fuller assessment, take your result to a qualified Ayurvedic physician. Our guide on how to find your dosha compares the routes.
How this prakriti test works
The test takes about three minutes: about 17 questions, plus a short safety check.
- Your concern. One question about what brought you here.
- Prakriti. Thirteen questions about how you have been for most of your life: build, skin, appetite, digestion, sleep, energy, pace, exercise and how you react under pressure, among others.
- Vikriti. One or two questions about how you are now, so a recent imbalance is not mistaken for your nature.
- Safety. A short check before anything is suggested.
Your result is a bar split into Vata, Pitta and Kapha, with a percentage for each. From that you can see which of the seven classical patterns you sit closest to. If your answers point to one dosha running high at the moment, that appears separately.
After your prakriti result
Start with the page for the dosha that leads your result: Vata, Pitta or Kapha. If two are close, read dual doshas explained. For more on the idea itself, read what prakriti is.
You do not need an email to see your result. For the longer explanation of how dosha tests work and how accurate they are, see the guide on the full dosha quiz page.
Questions people ask
Prakriti analysis, or prakriti pariksha, is the Ayurvedic assessment of your inborn constitution: the proportion of Vata, Pitta and Kapha you were born with. Classical texts describe prakriti as set at conception and constant through life.
No. A physician can observe and examine you and ask follow-up questions; a questionnaire cannot. Research also shows that physicians do not always agree with each other, so neither route is perfect. An online test is a useful, consistent first read.
Classical texts describe seven: three led by one dosha, three led by two doshas together, and one in which all three are in balance. This test shows your result as a percentage of each dosha, so you can see which of those patterns you are closest to.
Prakriti is the balance you were born with and does not change. Vikriti is your current state, which shifts with season, food, sleep and stress. This test asks separately about each.
Yes. It is free, takes about three minutes, and shows your full result without an email or sign-up.
